ACM Open Access Policy for ImmerCom 2026
Beginning January 1, 2026, ACM has transitioned to a fully Open Access publishing model. Because accepted ImmerCom 2026 papers will be published in the ACM Digital Library as part of the ACM MobiCom 2026 proceedings, they are subject to ACM’s Open Access policy.
Authors have two primary pathways for publishing their papers:
ACM Open Institutional Coverage
A paper may be published without an author-paid Article Processing Charge (APC) when its corresponding author is affiliated with an institution participating in ACM Open.
Authors should consult the list of ACM Open participating institutions and carefully verify the corresponding author’s institutional affiliation. If multiple authors could appropriately serve as the corresponding author, authors should consider ACM Open eligibility when making the designation. However, the corresponding-author designation and institutional affiliation must always be accurate.
Article Processing Charges
If the corresponding author’s institution does not participate in ACM Open, an APC will generally be required unless the paper qualifies for an ACM waiver.
For conferences taking place in 2026, ACM is providing temporary subsidized APC rates:
- $250 per paper for ACM or SIG members
- $350 per paper for nonmembers
The applicable charge and eligibility will be determined by ACM during the rights-management process. Additional information is available on the ACM Open website for authors.
Action Required Before ACM Rights Forms Are Generated
Authors must review and finalize the following information in the ImmerCom 2026 HotCRP system by August 20, 2026, Anywhere on Earth (AoE):
- Paper title
- Complete author list and publication order
- Corresponding-author designation
- Author names, email addresses, and institutional affiliations
This information will be used to generate the ACM rights-management forms and determine potential ACM Open coverage. After the forms have been generated, authors will not be able to change the paper title or author information.
Once the forms are released, the corresponding author will receive an email from ACM containing instructions about rights management, Open Access eligibility, and any applicable APC. Authors should allow messages from rightsreview@acm.org and check their spam folders if the email is not received.
APC Waivers and Financial Assistance
Authors who are not covered by ACM Open and cannot afford the subsidized APC should review ACM’s policy on Open Access APC waivers. Waivers are limited and are granted according to ACM’s eligibility criteria.
If the subsidized APC is unaffordable and the authors do not qualify for an ACM waiver, please contact the ImmerCom 2026 organizers at xueyu.hou@maine.edu and boji@vt.edu. The workshop organizers will coordinate with the MobiCom publication team as appropriate.
